D&D Lair Assault: Into the Pit of Madness and the Future

The final challenge for D&D Lair Assault begins on March 1 as the characters head Into the Pit of Madness.

Cultists have discovered the Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun and unearthed an ancient artifact of evil. Now, the ground trembles as a manifestation of the Chained God struggles to escape. Unless brave heroes can stop the cultists from completing a vile ritual, Tharizdun will be unleashed and plunge the world into darkness.

We're All In

This is the final challenge of the D&D Lair Assault program. We'll talk a little more about what that means in a moment, but for the purposes of this adventure, it means we're going all out to bring you a great end to a well-received series of challenging adventures.

This challenge was designed by Robert J. Schwalb, 4th Edition designer and a man with a great fondness for the classics. Taking cues from well-loved adventures such as The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, and Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, this challenge packs in everything you'd expect from the Chained God – insane cultists, nightmares, elemental nodes, demons, and the battle against oblivion!

What’s Next?

Yes, this is the final challenge in the D&D Lair Assault program, but we're hard at work developing ideas for incorporating this type of super-challenging play as a component in our future Organized Play experiences. Currently, we're focused on constructing our programs of the future, and we'll continue to give you great weekly adventures through D&D Encounters while we're busy building behind the scenes.

In fact, we're going to try out something new this year, using the D&D Lair Assault experience as well as some past convention events as inspiration for our first multi-table cooperative D&D Game Day, taking place on June 15th this year! It's called Vault of the Dracolich, and if you love D&D Lair Assault or taking part in larger-scale events where you can affect changes in real time, you're going to love it. We'll have a lot more details to come in April regarding this play experience.

Where It’s At

If you're looking to give D&D Lair Assault a go, or want to try out D&D Encounters (which is now available in both 4th Edition and D&D Next versions), head to our store locator to find a Wizards Play Network store near you! And if your local store isn't running any D&D programs, ask them to get signed up!
