1999 World Championships Results

Kai Budde was the 1999 Magic World Champion, and the results of the Worlds Fantasy Pro Tour have finally been tabulated.

The most successful team ("Little Mizers") was owned by Joe Farkas, who picked Mark Le Pine, Joe Weber, Matt Linde, and Gary Wise. In addition to his four Top 8 picks, he also had Darwin Kastle, who provided a bit of money, and the rest of Team Sped (Joe Weber and Ben Farkas), who finished out of the money.

Although Joe Weber finished in 121st place in the tournament, he can take some solace in the fact that he came in second place in the Fantasy Pro Tour, with a strong strategy of combining Team Sped and friends (Top 8 finishers Jamie Parke and Mark Le Pine) with US National Team members (Charles Kornblith and Zvi Mowshowitz). Although Mowshowitz didn't win any money in the indiviidual competition, the money from the US team's win helped out Weber's team significantly.

The third place finisher in the Fantasy Pro Tour was Kai Budde and his unnamed team, who (of course) won Worlds. In addition to picking himself (his $25,000 was split among the 20 people who picked him, providing everyone with $1,250 in Fantasy Money), Budde relied heavily on the German contingent at Worlds. When the German team came in second, Budde benefited from being one of two people to list Patrick Mello, and being the only person to list Rosario Maij.

United States Team Member Zvi Mowshowitz came in fourth with a team called "The Alliance to Ban Yawgmoth's Bargain," featuring himself (along with 36 other people who also had faith in him), Top 8 finishers Gary Wise and Jakub Slemr, and comparatively overlooked US team member John Hunka.

The most popular player for this tournament was Zvi Mowshowitz, whose 37 patrons each got $148.65 in fantasy money from Zvi's $5500 from the US Team.

Dirk Baberowski was second with 25 people picking him, followed by Kai Budde, Jon Finkel, and Svend Geertsen in a three-way tie for third with 20 picks.

The Winning Team:

Little Mizers: Ben Farkas, Jamie Parke, Joe Weber, Gary Wise, Darwin Kastle, Mark Le Pine, Matt Linde, and Tony Tsai.

The next Fantasy Pro Tour will be for Pro Tour-Washington DC. Watch for an announcement soon.
