Commander progenitor and Judge Emeritus Sheldon Menery writes a column on StarCityGames.com where he details his Commander decks. One of the most popular commanders out there is The Mimeoplasm, and Sheldon recently took the opportunity to share his build and how an average game might play out.
This take on the green-blue-black commander isn't as focused on quickly killing the opponent with The Mimeoplasm as much as it is focused on using The Mimeoplasm for incremental advantages. While some players might try and do something like Buried Alive into Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon and a huge creature, Sheldon is a champion of having a fun, interactive game rather than trying to kill people quickly. The result is some really fun turns, using The Mimeoplasm on players around the table!
Because of how this deck likes to play on other players' graveyards, the deck even contains Archive Trap and Mindcrank to load up your opponents' graveyards. Dreadwaters works in a pinch to either mill yourself or your opponent, letting you do whatever will help your chances more.
Of course, in a pinch, the deck can just end games. Searching up Lord of Extinction with Fauna Shaman or Survival of the Fittest allows you to Rite of Consumption it away, often being enough to immediately defeat one player!
The Mimeoplasm is a lot of fun to play, and Sheldon's version is no exception. Take a look at his decklist, and, if you want to read it in action, go check out his article where he details how a game played out!
