As we celebrate the holidays, we're bringing you some of our favorite decks from throughout the year.

Enjoy these fun flashbacks into last year’s favorites.

Wizards of the Coast Staff

The letter I!'ve always had a soft spot for Elves, and I have gotten good feedback on the last few Pauper lists I've put up, so when I saw a ten-Forest Elf deck, I knew I had a winner. This is more of a beatdown Elves list than a combo list, but the Gitaxian Probes, Manamorphoses, and ten lands do indicate that a certain combo element is present.

Of course, ten lands is a bit of a stretch, since Land Grant essentially makes it fourteen, but just getting to submit a decklist with ten land is pretty awesome. Between the ten Forests, four Land Grants, four Gitaxian Probes, and twelve one-drop Elves that add mana, the deck shouldn't have too much trouble operating off one or even zero lands in the opening hand.

Playing so few mana sources means a high density of spells, and it isn't uncommon for the deck to have a board of five or more Elves within a few short turns. That in turn makes Timberwatch Elf a monster, which is the main engine driving the deck. Once Timberwatch taps to give a creature (and by "creature," I mean "Elf") +5/+5, the game is usually over very rapidly.

Even if Timberwatch is hiding out on the bottom of the deck, between Rancor, Nettle Sentinel, and Multani's Acolyte, the deck can easily present enough power to take down the opponent quite easily. On the defensive end, Essence Warden protects your life total and Spidersilk Armor protects your Elves from sweepers, making the deck solid on both defense and offense.

I would be concerned about combo decks, and the sideboard doesn't really address them, so some way to disrupt the Ghostly Flicker decks may be worth investigating. I like the anti-beatdown answers and the additional ways to protect your Elves, as well as Gleeful Sabotage against Affinity, so most of the sideboard options look sweet.
