f you have been reading Daily Decks recently, you know that we have not shied away from dipping our toes into the pool that is white-black. This week, we have a more traditional approach to the story that black and white typically tell. While we have recently seen things like infect, black and white more traditionally tell a story of life and death. What better way to show that off than with the newest in a line of powerful reanimation strategies in Standard?
We have seen five-color reanimation strategies enjoy some success, as well as Solar Flare, which is a slightly less "in your face" reanimation strategy. White-Black Reanimation is much more set on getting a fatty into the 'yard and then getting it into play from there as quickly as possible. As Clyde the Glide Drexler (Magic Online account, not the legendary basketball player) shows, the beauty of trying to reanimate things in white-black is that your enablers are also your control elements, allowing you to increase the versatility of your deck without increasing the number of cards.
Liliana of the Veil is the perfect example of this type of card in this list. With Liliana, you have the pressure of a powerful Planeswalker on turn three who can tear apart a control player's hand or eat the first creature out of a midrange deck. Beyond that, though, Liliana also acts as the perfect discard outlet for your Griselbrand or Elesh Norn. Similar cards, such as Smallpox, allow for the same strategy. Lingering Souls and Ravenous Rats give the deck additional technology, buying time for your primary combo to come online. You might be worried about cards like Nihil Spellbomb or Tormod's Crypt, but Clyde even has that covered with a pair of Stony Silence in his sideboard!
