Model Tactics
Chainmail Set 3: Human Paladin of Stratis
By Bruce R. Cordell and Rob Heinsoo

Model: Human Paladin of Stratis

Faction: Thalos

Why It Rocks: The Human Paladin of Stratis fights without fear and without pity. All the troops in the Paladin’s presence gain a +4 bonus to saves against fear and to morale checks. This may sound tame, but in truth it is a huge benefit -- it magnifies the efficiency of your troops by at least 25%. And speaking of troops, the Paladin of Stratis brings a whopping 6 points of command to the table. Wow.

Tricks and Tactics: You want to use the Paladin of Stratis’s Aura of Courage (which provides the +4 bonus). That means you’ll have to maneuver your model close enough to your troops to provide the benefit while they are in combat. When they’ve lost at least half of their health, they stand a far better chance of making that morale saving throw and staying in the fight with the Paladin around.

Your choice of troops is interesting. You could be smart and conservative and simply bring the appealing Human Templars to the table -- they deal impressive damage, and the Paladin’s Aura of Courage guarantees that they can fully utilize their 6 health (as opposed to wasting half of it if they fail a morale saving throw when they reach 3 or fewer health).

An alternative to loading up on models of your own faction is to consider some powerful cross-faction troops. Remember, with the Human Paladin of Stratis you’ve got 6 command points. You could use it to field a Dire Boar, maneuver three Stone Children, or even team up with a few ranged-attack-minded Wood Elf Skirmishers. The great thing about the Paladin’s Aura of Courage is that it affects all allied models.

Enemies Who Hate to See It: Fearless, the Paladin of Stratis channels holy power sufficiently to grant it a turn undead bonus of +5. Low-level undead don’t want to see the Paladin.
