Model: Stonechild
Faction: Mordengard
Why It Rocks: Stonechildren are half-elementals. The strength of living stone allows them to wield greatswords with deadly skill -- they deal 3 damage on each successful strike! This models stony hide ensures a high armor. Couple his damage with his high armor and good health, and you begin to appreciate one of the best Mordengard models of all time.
Tricks and Tactics: If you have a Mordengard warband, include at least one Stonechild. Your commander, a Dwarf Cleric, can hit the Stonechild with a shield of faith spell, boosting his armor higher than 20. With the support of the Dwarf Cleric or Dwarf Fighters command points to increase the Stonechilds attack roll by +2 each round, it is hard for this unit to miss its mark. Even the spell of darkness fails to stop him (another reason to include this model in your warband) -- the Stonechild has Blind-Fight, which means he only has to roll a 6+ on a d20 (not an 11+) to attempt an attack in magical darkness.
Stonechildren are faster than some other dwarf units, but dont give in to the temptation to run them out ahead of the rest of your models. Mordengard is best when it makes a steady, unified advance. Nothing is more fearsome than a horde of Mordengard units attacking en masse, gaining flanking bonuses on top of the +2 bonus from command. Because he deals 3 points of damage on a successful strike, a Stonechild can cut down many of his opponents, which allows him to immediately attack an adjacent enemy model with his Cleave ability.
Enemies Who Hate to See It: Warbands, such as Naresh, that rely on using magical darkness lose some of their advantage against you whenever you bring a Stonechild to the table.
