Set 2: Grimlock Trooper
By Bruce R. Cordell and Rob Heinsoo
It Rocks: Fearsome, eyeless humanoids sniff out and ambush the unwary
in the lightless depths. Though lacking sight, the Grimlock Trooper possesses
other keen senses to compensate: Its got the Blindsight ability,
baby! Darkness? Pah! The Grimlock Trooper likes it that way.
and Tactics: The best use for you Grimlock
Trooper is under the veil of magical darkness. Make sure you build
a warband with a model that can cast or trigger darkness, such
as the Tiefling Fighter. Against other models without Blind-Fight or Blindsight,
your Grimlocks have a wonderful advantage: Before attacking, opposing
models must roll 11+ on a d20, or their attacks automatically miss. Since
the Grimlock Trooper has Blindsight (not Blind-Fight), you need not make
a check to attempt a normal melee attack against that enemy. Moreover,
your Grimlock Trooper receives a +3 bonus on its attack rolls against
enemies that cant see it.
have an army with a huge advantage in darkness -- you can strike, but
your enemies cant. Your mission is simple: Drop darkness
on the biggest concentration of enemy forces, and engage.
Who Hate To See It: If youve got Grimlock Troopers, youve
also got other models that can cast or trigger darkness. Large
models with high melee attacks (and without Blind-Fight or Blindsight)
have the most to lose when fighting in darkness -- no matter how high
their attack modifiers, they still must roll an 11+ on a d20 to attempt
their attack. In the dark, Grimlock Troopers terrorize all.
