Set 2: Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelist
By Bruce R. Cordell and Rob Heinsoo

Model:
Gray Elf
Snakestrike Duelist
Faction:
Ravilla
Why
It Rocks: The Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelist wields a whirling spiked
chain, which doubles her reach. What doesn't rock about this model? It
is cheap, has reach, almost never misses with a high attack score, and
has high armor. Want more? She's an Independent troop, so she can maneuver
at will. The Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelist is one of the best melee troops
available to Ravilla (the best for the price).
Tricks
& Tactics: Informally referred to as the "pod," a useful
tactic for 4 Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelists is to arrange themselves in
a diamond pattern. Whenever one moves, they all move (they're Independent),
maintaining their formation. Because of their reach, whenever one comes
within 1 inch of an enemy model, it is a sure bet that at least two others
will also be in range. With the +2 flanking bonus granted whenever three
or more of your models contact an enemy model, the Gray Elf Snakestrike
Duelists' already righteous attack bonus climbs all the higher. Few models
can withstand the "pod."
Enemies
Who Hate to See It: Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelists do not deal specialized
types of damage, but because of their relative cheapness and their "pod"
tactics, any opposing warband curses when they see them hit the battlefield.
Cross-Faction
Warband That Might Want to Use It: Thalos and Mordengard both would
be happy to field even a single Gray Elf Snakestrike Duelist. Because
they are Independent troops, they can maneuver themselves and not suck
up precious command. Since normal cross-faction troops require twice as
much command to maneuver, the Snakestrike Duelist pays her own way.
