At a gala ceremony at the 2001 Origins International Game Expo and Fair, the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design announced the winners of the 2000 Origins Awards, the premier awards for design and production excellence in adventure games. In addition, the Academy inducted two classic games and two respected game professionals into the Adventure Gaming Hall of Fame. The games inducted were the Paranoia and Vampire: The Masquerade roleplaying games, and the game industry professionals inducted were Reiner Knizia and Wizards own former chief, Peter Adkison.

"This was an exciting year for the Origins Awards," said Academy Chairman Charles Ryan. "Public response to the new website was terrific. And we had the biggest ceremony ever. The Awards have become . . . one of the biggest events of the year for the adventure games industry."

The Origins Awards are a 27-year tradition of the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design. The Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design is the professional association of the adventure and hobby game industry. The Fellows of the Academy include the foremost designers, authors, illustrators, and other professionals of the games industry.
