Somewhere under a lost and lonely hill of grim and foreboding aspect lies a labyrinthine crypt. It is filled with terrible traps and not a few strange and ferocious monsters to slay the unwary. It is filled with rich treasures both precious and magical, but in addition to the aforementioned guardians, there is said to be a demi-lich who still wards his final haunt.
Today, the once-feared name of Keraptis is little known even to learned scholars. Little-known, that is, until several weeks ago, when three highly-valued magical weapons with the cryptic names of Wave, Whelm and Blackrazor disappeared from the vaults of their owners in the midst of the city of Greyhawk.
Sometime else, a large exploration-colonization expedition of human origin was overtaken in the course of its journey by a deadly plague. The ship was drawn through a black hole and spewed into the universe where the World of Greyhawk fantasy setting exists. Chance brought it to that very planet, and its computers and robotics brought it to an intact landing...
In the Yatil Mountains south of Perrenland there is rumored to be a magical hoard of unsurpassed value, a treasure of such fame that scores of adventurers have perished in search of it. Join the fighter, cavalier, other fighter, magic-user, illusionist, druid, thief-acrobat and "thief"—as they plunder the buried riches of the Archmage Iggwilv!
The barbarian had a fairly robust array of abilities, including such outdoor survival skills as hiding in natural surroundings, snare building, and outdoor tracking—but it may have been their aversion to magic and magic-users that stood out most amongst their identifying traits.
For the cavalier, the prerequisites were high (and, in fact, started out at 0-level), but the class enjoyed powerful benefits that included expert parrying, the ability to function at negative hit points, and ability score percentiles that increased at each level.
This split-class character would begin as a thief for the first 5 levels of experience, and then specializes as a thief-acrobat. While some thief skills were then retained and others lost, new acrobat skills then gained: tightrope walking, pole vaulting, jumping, tumbling...
Rumors of treasure and mystery have lured the characters across the ocean to an island known to its natives only as the Isle of Dread. The characters move inland in search of an ancient city built upon a plateau. Hidden within that site are the secrets of the natives' ancestors and untold wealth. Evil also awaits.
For several years, organized bands of pirates and slavers have made a living by raiding the coastal towns on the Sea of Gearnat. The local lords have finally become determined to take action, forgetting their petty squabbles to unite against the marauders of the yellow sails…
Another lightning flash nips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind—or perhaps a lone wolf—fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.
It's the holidays, and what better way to celebrate than with a bit of cartoon cheer!
