Playtest Group of the Month
(November)

By Kim Mohan, Playtest Coordinator

Our second Playtest Group of the Month comes from the rarefied air of Colorado, but their commentaryduring the 3E project has been totally down to earth and extremely helpful. John Grose is the nominal leader, and most of the feedback from the group was funneled through him, but we also got a lot of commentary direct from another energetic group member, Brett Paul. In terms of the sheer volume of information that John and Brett provided to us, this group certainly ranks in the top three out of the 100-plus groups we communicated with.

And now, to get things started, here's John:

My thoughts on 3rd Edition

By John Grose

Needless to say, I was terribly excited about the opportunity to playtest 3rd edition. The paper cuts we received as we rapidly exposed ourselves to the text on that first night were made worthwhile by over a year of helping to shape the game and interacting with some of the people at heart of the gaming industry. Playtesting is fun, rewarding, and frustrating.

I have been a tireless advocate of the new edition because, having seen it, I honestly believe that it is the transcendent D&D experience.

Quote of the Week:

"I have absolutely loved cantrips since my introduction to them in Unearthed Arcana. I find them highly useful and a logical addition to the magic using class. Cantrips make sense as something for apprentices and master wizards to both have. Having them-and orisons-in 3rd Edition pleases me a great deal! And now they're expanded!"
