As our 3rd edition D&D playtests came to an end, we began a new round of playtests for the forthcoming Forgotten Realms 3rd edition setting. Since this round began in June, many groups have been very helpful. This month, we take a look at the Colasante Collective, a group of avid Realms fans from the Columbus, Ohio, area. The members of the group have been active with Dungeons & Dragons since 1978 (well, some of them), playing in most of the published D&D settings. They have brought their vast game knowledge and enthusiasm to bear on the Realms, with some interesting results.

Our Thoughts on Forgotten Realms 3rd Edition
First of all, we love the 3rd edition D&D rules! For the past few weeks our group has familiarized ourselves with the rules, created spot rules sheets, converted our second edition characters, and making new 3rd edition D&D characters from scratch. Well done to all those involved! Now, I'll move on to the Forgotten Realms book, since that's why we're here.
Since we got mostly rules, we could not comment on the Realms history and culture and NPCs. But we like the rules part. They bring out a lot of what makes the Realms great. More specifically, we like the fact that the region your character grew up in influences his or her development. This helps give both the characters and the regions a sense of self and style that you don't get otherwise.
The volume of gods presented in this book overwhelmed us.
