Who Shoots First?

You know the debate: A New Hope. Han Solo. Greedo. Who shoots first? Fans can argue the point for hours, but our latest scenario for the Star Wars Miniatures game looks to settle the debate once and for all -- at least within the scope of minis play. Granted, as seen in Episode IV, Greedo does get off the first shot. But Han Solo, never to be underestimated, is out to win himself back a little notoriety.

Setup takes place using the Mos Eisley map, with the Rebel and Imperial players setting up their squads in opposite corners of the map.

Rebel Setup

The Rebel player builds his or her squad as normal (using the standard 100 points), as long as the squad includes Han Solo.

Han Solo 28
Remaining Squad 72
100

Rebel Victory Conditions

No rescuing the princess or saving the galaxy this time -- this is a grudge match, pure and simple, between Han Solo and Greedo. The Rebel player wins by accomplishing the following goal.

Gun Down Greedo: Han Solo has been avoiding Jabba's henchmen long enough. When Greedo comes to collect, Han decides to take out this tiresome bounty hunter. After all, he doesn't have the money with him. The Rebel player wins if Han Solo defeats Greedo.

Fringe Setup

The Fringe player builds his or her squad as normal (using the standard 100 points), as long as the squad includes Greedo.

Greedo 12
Remaining Squad 88
100

Fringe Victory Conditions

The Fringe player wins by accomplishing the following goal:

Gun Down Solo: Greedo, on the lookout for his own cut, suggests that he receive the money owed to Jabba. When Han refuses, Greedo decides to bring the smuggler in -- dead. The Fringe player wins if Greedo defeats Han Solo.

Special Scenario Rules

The follow special rules are in effect for this mission:

Grudge Match: When Han Solo and Greedo activate each round, they move or attack as normal; however, they may only target each other for their attacks.

In addition, opposing characters can attack and damage Han and Greedo, but they cannot inflict fatal damage (it is assumed that Han and Greedo are moving more defensively in their hunt for one another). Han and Greedo can only be reduced down to 10 Hit Points by other characters; after that, additional damage is ignored. Only Han and Greedo can defeat one another.

Strategies

When playing through the scenario, keep in mind the following tips.

Han Solo: Between these two gunslingers, Han has the obvious edge in stats: higher Hit Points, Defense, Damage -- and even a Force Point to spend. When he gets Greedo in his sights, blast away.

Greedo: This Rodian definitely has his work cut out for him. Even though Greedo's Bounty Hunter ability gives him +4 Attack against Solo (for +10 total, so that he hits on a 7 or higher), he doesn't want to go toe-to-toe in a shooting match. Greedo needs to have his squad wound Solo first, and then come in for the final shot.

Both characters: Both Han and Greedo have Cunning Shot. So whoever activates first each round gets +4 Attack and +10 Damage against the other -- meaning they'll each hit on only a 3 or higher -- and if Han shoots first and hits, he outright defeats Greedo. Each should definitely look to get the jump on the other, and stay out of line of sight for as long as possible.

Options

Let the Wookiee Win: Alternatively, this scenario can be played using Chewbacca against the bounty hunter Bossk. Instead of blasting away at one another, Chewie and Bossk both have Melee combat abilities, and should look to rush one another -- at the most opportune moment.
