Vader's Pursuit

A Star Wars Miniatures Revenge of the Sith Scenario

"A young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine before he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights."

Order 66 devastated the Jedi (see the "Execute Order 66" miniatures scenario), but not all of them were killed in the initial onslaught. The few that survived fled and hid, aware that even in the most remote corners of the galaxy, their existence would be noted and eventually reported. Isolation would not guarantee survival.

Until all of the Jedi were destroyed, Vader's task was not complete. He pursued the Jedi whenever they were revealed to him, and one by one, the Jedi fell.

In this scenario for the Star Wars Miniatures Game, Vader and his clone troops have disabled and boarded a starship fleeing the Core Worlds. With many Imperial ships in the area, trying to get away in an escape pod would be tantamount to surrender. Therefore, the Jedi's only hope is to defeat her pursuers and try to flee once again.

This scenario depicts the clash between Darth Vader and one of the surviving Jedi. The Jedi represented by the Shaak Ti miniature may remain nameless, or you can provide your own. You may also set up your own Vader versus Jedi skirmish. Use your own squads and select your own maps, as stated in Alternate Setups, below.

This scenario uses the map board from the Revenge of the Sith Starter Set. For this mission, you'll need miniatures from both the Starter Set and the Revenge of the Sith Booster Packs.

Republic Setup

The Republic force consists of Shaak Ti with a band of friendly Republic soldiers and an assortment of Fringers totaling 100 points. If the Republic player chooses not to use this suggested force, see Alternate Setups for squad building rules.

The Republic player sets up in the areas indicated on the map:

Area A: Shaak Ti

Area B: Alderaan Trooper, Human Mercenary, Nautolan Soldier, Zabrak Fringer

Squad 1
Shaak Ti 24
Alderaan Trooper 6
Human Mercenary 11
Nautolan Soldier 8
Zabrak Fringer 11
Squad 2
Gotal Fringer 9
Polis Massa Medic 9
Utapaun Soldier 10
Wookiee Berserker 12
Total 100

Republic Victory Conditions

The Republic player wins by achieving the following goal:

Defeat the Imperials: If all of the Imperials are defeated, the Republic player wins.

Imperial Setup

The Imperial force consists of Darth Vader, a Clone Trooper Commander, and Clone Troopers totaling 96 points. If the Imperial player chooses not to use these forces, see below for alternate setups.

The Imperials setup in Area C:

Area C: Clone Trooper Commander and Clone Troopers

Squad 1
1 Clone Trooper Commander 13
4 Clone Trooper 36
Squad 2
Darth Vader 47
Total 96

Imperial Victory Conditions

The Imperial player wins by achieving the following goal:

Defeat the Jedi: The Imperial player wins by defeating the Jedi character.

Special Scenario Rules

Order 66: The Imperial player may use characters with Order 66 listed on their stat cards.

Battle Damage: The ship is heavily damaged and thick smoke obscures much of the interior. Line of sight is limited to six squares.

Protect the Jedi: At the beginning of the third round, Republic Squad 2 arrives to help protect the Jedi. The Republic player may choose to place Squad 2 at any one of the three entrances on the "north" side of the board (in the Command Center, the Blast Door, or the corridor entrance between them). The squad must be placed as close to the map edge as possible.

Target Sighted: Before Vader may enter the board; the clones must confirm the Jedi's presence. Vader enters at the beginning of the round following a sighting of the Jedi. The Jedi is sighted whenever she stops or passes within six squares of any Imperial character. Vader enters at the same starting point as the Clones (Area C), at the map edge.

I Have Been Waiting For You: The Jedi has been preparing for a confrontation with Vader. Therefore, the Republic player may choose to replace one of the character's listed Force Powers with Lightsaber Riposte. This choice must be declared at the start of play. If the Republic player forgets to declare this choice, it's assumed that the Jedi uses its listed abilities.

Lightsaber Riposte (Force 1: When hit by a melee attack, this character can make an immediate attack against that attacker).

Alternate Setups

This scenario works with a variety of maps and squads. Try out squads or locations of your own. Here are the rules:

1. Set up your squads.

Republic Player:

  • Select one Jedi character from either the Revenge of the Sith or Clone Strike sets, except for any version of Yoda (who never faced Vader) or Obi-Wan Kenobi (see Ultimate Missions: Rebel Storm).
  • Select your remaining squad from Republic and Fringe factions from any set (you may mix eras). Unique characters and Clone Troops are not allowed. The entire force, including the Jedi, may not exceed 100 points.

Imperial Player:

  • Select any version of Darth Vader from any set. You may even use Anakin Skywalker, Sith Apprentice instead.
  • Select your remaining squad from either Clone Troops or Stormtroopers. You may not mix the troopers of different eras, but may use any version of Vader with troops of either era (for example, you may use Darth Vader, Sith Lord with Clone Troopers). Any type of Clone Trooper from the Revenge of the Sith or Clone Strike sets may be used. If using Rebel Strike era Imperials, any type of Stormtrooper or Snowtrooper may be used. Only one character with "commander" in the title may be included. Anakin Skywalker, Sith Apprentice, may only be used with Clone Trooper types (not Stormtroopers). The entire Imperial force may not exceed 100 points.

2. Choose a map

The Republic player chooses any map available, along with up to four large and any number of small terrain tiles.

3. Choose starting locations

Players choose their own starting locations.

The Republic player's starting location must be a room or room-like area of at least four squares by four squares. Republic Squad 1 begins here.

The Imperial player's starting location must be at a corridor, door, or similar entry type area at one map edge. They may not start with direct line of sight to the Republic characters.

4. Use the same victory conditions as above.

5. Use the same special scenario rules as above.

However, if both players agree, Battle Damage may be ignored. Also, Republic Squad 2 enters the board at an appropriate entrance-like area at the map edge opposite the edge used by the Imperials. If there is no appropriate entry location at this edge, use another nearby location (this may require a judgment call).
