The Yuuzhan Vong Advance

A New Star Wars Miniatures Scenario

The Yuuzhan Vong assault presses ever forward. The brutal extra-galactic aliens are nearly unstoppable as they invade world after world. Using bizarre organic weaponry and armor, and possessing an unusual immunity to the Force, the Yuuzhan Vong are more than a match for the New Republic.

This Star Wars Miniatures scenario depicts a Yuuzhan Vong attack on just about any world in the galaxy. The planet is locked in battle for its very existence, and fighting rages everywhere. At the beginning of this scenario, a small group of New Republic stragglers faces a Yuuzhan Vong recon force that is sweeping the area for enemies. Another group of New Republic forces lies hidden and will join the battle if spotted. Unfortunately, the invaders also have more troops at their disposal and can call in a backup force. The planet's defenders must defeat the Yuuzhan Vong or risk enslavement -- or worse.

This scenario uses miniatures solely from the Universe set. It uses the Muunilinst map from the Clone Strike Starter Set. However, you can use any other map instead, subject to the Special Scenario Rules below.

New Republic Setup

The New Republic force consists of a New Republic Commander, three New Republic Troopers, a Young Jedi Knight, and several Fringers, totaling 102 points. If the New Republic player chooses not to use this suggested force, he may create a 102-point force of his own. The force must consist only of medium-sized, non-Unique Fringe and New Republic characters.

The New Republic forces are divided into two groups, one of which begins play in hiding. See the Special Scenario Rules below for setup information.

Stragglers
1 New Republic Trooper 10
1 Shistavanen Pilot 12
1 ASP-7 10

In Hiding
1 New Republic Commander 19
3 New Republic Trooper 30
1 Young Jedi Knight 21

Total 102

New Republic Victory Conditions

The New Republic player wins by defeating all of the Yuuzhan Vong.

Yuuzhan Vong Setup

The Yuuzhan Vong force consists solely of Yuuzhan Vong Warriors and Subalterns totaling 99 points. If the Yuuzhan Vong player chooses to make her own force, it must also total 99 points and contain no Unique Yuuzhan Vong (unless using the alternate backup force described in the Special Scenario Rules).

The Yuuzhan Vong forces are divided into two groups, one of which is not used until certain conditions are met. See the Special Scenario Rules below for setup information.

Recon Force
1 Yuuzhan Vong Subaltern 17
2 Yuuzhan Vong Warrior 16

Backup Force
2 Yuuzhan Vong Subaltern 34
4 Yuuzhan Vong Warrior 32

Total 99

Yuuzhan Vong Victory Conditions

The Yuuzhan Vong player wins by defeating the entire New Republic force.

Special Scenario Rules

Secret Setup

This scenario opens as the Yuuzhan Vong recon force enters a new area where some New Republic characters are in hiding. They will remain hidden until certain conditions are met (see "Out of Hiding," below).

  1. If not using the example map above, both players must agree on which map to use, along with any terrain tiles, if desired.
  2. The New Republic player secretly notes the exact location of his hidden characters. (If using the map above, the player can write his notes directly on a printout of the map.) Typically, they must hide in mostly enclosed rooms that have doors and only a few openings. However, some maps have too few rooms (such as the map in the Revenge of the Sith Starter Game.). If this is the case, partially enclosed roomlike areas may be substituted. Players should agree before setup begins as to which map areas are considered rooms. The characters must be placed in at least three different rooms. No two groups may be placed in adjacent rooms.
  3. After the New Republic player has finished, the Yuuzhan Vong player places the recon force on the map. The entire force must be placed together at the edge of the map (or as close to the edge as possible) in a street, hallway, airlock, or other "outside" or "entry" type area.
  4. Next, the New Republic player places the stragglers on the map. Like the recon force, they must be placed together at the edge of the map (or as close to the edge as possible) in a street, hallway, airlock, or other "outside" or "entry" type area. In addition, they must start out of line of sight from the recon force.
  5. Play begins. Only the recon force and the stragglers may be used until the conditions to release the hidden units are met. This applies even if the stragglers pass through a room with hidden units. Hidden units may not move.

Open Doors

On certain maps, some doors are adjacent to the map edge. If a character is set up next to one of these doors, it begins the game or round open.

Out of Hiding

Hidden characters come into play if either of the following conditions is met:

  1. There is line of sight between a hidden character and the recon force. When this occurs, the New Republic player must immediately place the hidden character on the map. The character may be activated in the same round as it is seen. This applies to each hidden character that is seen.
  2. The Yuuzhan Vong backup force arrives. When this occurs, the Yuuzhan Vong player places the backup force on the map. Immediately afterward, the New Republic player places all hidden characters on the map.

Call for Backup

The Yuuzhan Vong backup force arrives 2 rounds after the recon force has seen two separate groups of New Republic characters. This may include the stragglers and one hidden character, or hidden characters in two separate rooms. If the recon force is defeated, the backup force arrives at the start of the following round.

In either case, the backup force arrives in two groups. Each group has one Subaltern and two Warriors. One group must be placed at an "entry" or "outside" type area (as described above) anywhere along the opposite map edge from the starting location of the recon force. The second group must be placed at an "entry" or "outside" type area along either perpendicular map edge from the starting location of the recon force.

Some maps may have limited options for placement. If this is the case, players can allow the backup force to enter at a turbolift or landing platform (discuss before play begins).

Alternate Yuuzhan Vong Backup Force

Replace the second backup squad (one Subaltern and two Warriors) with Nom Anor. He is still subject to the placement rules in "Call for Backup."
