As might be expected, the arrival of Jabba’s rancor on Tatooine was a violent affair marked by unexpected twists of fate, deal making, and backstabbing. This Star Wars Miniatures Game scenario is the first of three depicting the events surrounding the arrival of the rancor and its ultimate demise. While the three stories are linked, the results of the earlier scenarios don't impact the later ones, so they can be played separately or as a trilogy.
"Grizzid's Last Flight" opens with a trader named Captain Grizzid delivering the Rancor to an unknown party. Somewhere over Tatooine, the monster breaks free of its cage and attacks ship and crew alike. The creature must be defeated before it lays waste to the ship and causes a crash they are unlikely to survive.
This scenario uses miniatures from the Universe, Rebel Storm and Clone Strike sets. The map is from the Revenge of the Sith Starter Set.
(For those interested in more background on the rancor, see "A Boy and His Monster: The Rancor Keeper’s Tale" from Tales from Jabba’s Palace, the rancor databank entry on starwars.com, and "A Rancor Comes to Tatooine" from The Star Wars Sourcebook by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith.

Grizzid's Crew Setup
Captain Grizzid’s force consists of Fringers totaling 58 points. If the player chooses not to use the suggested force, he may create a 58-point force of his own. The force must consist of only medium-sized Fringe characters, with one Unique Fringe character as Captain Grizzid.
Game play begins with two characters on the map, one each at Area A and B. They are the only two crewmembers in the area when the Rancor escapes from its cage. The remaining characters arrive per the special scenario rule "Grizzard’s Crew," below.

Crew Victory Conditions
The Grizzid’s Crew player wins by defeating the Rancor before it causes 100 points of damage to the ship.
Rancor Setup
The Rancor is the only character available to the Rancor player. However, you might find it interesting to try the scenario with other Huge creatures instead.
The Rancor sets up in Area C.

Rancor Victory Conditions
The Rancor player wins by defeating the entire Grizzid force or by causing 100 points of damage to the ship, per "Rancor’s Rampage" below.
Special Scenario Rules
Situation Normal: Grizzid’s ship starts undamaged, so all pit terrain in the corridors is considered to be clear terrain. The droids indicated on the map remain as shown.
Open Door: The door to Area C, the Rancor’s Cage, is considered to be open for the entire scenario.
Devour: When the Rancor makes a critical hit on an opponent, the opponent is devoured (and immediately defeated) unless it makes a save 11.
Grizzid’s Crew: Before the start of the second round, Grizzid and the rest of his crew arrive to help. Place half of the minis in area D and half in area E.
Rancor’s Rampage: Due to a combination of the enraged Rancor’s thrashing movement and its sheer bulk, the Rancor damages ship systems and controls as it passes by and fights next to them. The Rancor does not attack the ship directly (i.e., it does not target the squares as an opponent), but it may choose to take a path that causes more destruction when pursuing opponents as dictated by its Savage ability. It still must end its move next to an enemy if it can.
After the Rancor completes its turn, roll a save 11 for each square of the following items it passed or fights directly adjacent to during its turn. (Melee Reach 2 does not apply for this purpose).
- Any control panel, droid, crate, or other items indicated to be a low object on the map, except chairs.
- The four large columns in the regulation chamber.
- Any small control panel graphic, even if it is not a low object, except the one in the Rancor’s starting area.
Each square only rolls for damage once per activation (so if the Rancor passes a square and then fights next to it, the square rolls only once). However, if the Rancor makes an attack of opportunity, it triggers an additional roll for each item around it.
Items that fail their save take 10 points of damage and are destroyed. Use Damage or Force markers to indicate destroyed items. Destroyed item squares still retain the terrain type indicated on the map (clear, low object, wall, etc.).
Once the Rancor does 100 points (10 squares) of damage to the ship, it causes the ship to crash on Tatooine. Grizzid’s remaining force is immediately defeated, as they will not survive the crash.
Coming in Part 2 of "Jabba's Rancor"
In "The Birthday Present," the second of three linked scenarios, Bidlo Kwerve and his associates try to capture the Rancor for Jabba’s birthday.
