Purple Reign: About Those Skyridge Psychic Pokémon

By Dark Master Trainer Mike

If it's the Psychic Network, why do they need a phone number?

-- Robin Williams

Gengar F-66-# is forcing me to write about some of the Psychic Pokémon in the new Skyridge set! After looking at them, I was pleasantly surprised to find some rather interesting ones, so here we go!

Let's start with the Alakazam E-66-#. Its Poké-Power is very interesting. Energy Jump allows you to move any Energy card from one of your Pokémon to another once during your turn! Let me make this clear. Any Energy card! This power opens up all kinds of possibilities. You can use it to quickly power up a hitter. You can use it to add enough Energy for a retreat. For multicolored deck possibilities, you can use it to get the right color to the right Pokémon! This makes it work well with the new "Miracle" Technical Machines. Best of all, it can move Special Energy cards around! Oh, and Gengar F-66-# wants me to remind you that you can also use it for frying bacon . . . ? I'm sure Gengar F-66-# is mistaken about that, but I have to admit I have never tried it.

Alakazam E-66-# has a pretty good attack, as well. Psychic allows you to do 30 damage to a Pokémon, plus 10 damage for every Energy on that Pokémon. It has a 3 Colorless Energy cost so you do not even have to have a Psychic Energy deck to make it work for you.

Xatu F-67-# is the second psychic friend I want to take a look at. Its Poké-Body Synchronicity allows you to attach any Technical Machine to Xatu F-67-#. Once again, this is a real plus because its attack is Colorless, which allows you to put it in about any deck and still be effective.

The attack on Xatu F-67-# is really why this card may be worth playing. Warp Hole has a 3 Colorless Energy cost and does 30 damage. But wait, there's more! The attack on a successful heads flip allows you to search your discard pile for any card and put it on top of your deck. This card can really help you get out of a jam or a jelly . . . or a marmalade. Need a card back? Xatu F-67-# can help you get it. If used wisely with Technical Machines, it also can deal out just the kind of damage or Special Condition you need.

Of course, what would a Psychic article be without a look at our friend Gengar F-66-#? I guess it goes without saying that I was forced to include this Pokémon! Its Poké-Power Manipulate is actually pretty good. When you evolve to Gengar F-66-# in the Active position, you can put a Basic Pokémon from your discard pile onto your bench. You then flip 3 coins, and for each heads, you can take a Basic Energy card from your discard pile and attach it to that Pokémon. This is a pretty good late game strategy for powering up.

The attack on Gengar F-66-# is expensive. Hydrokinesis costs 2 Psychic and 2 Colorless for 40 damage and a coin flip that adds Burned on a heads and Confused on a tails. If you can keep it healthy, this is a pretty good attack. The problem is getting enough Energy on it.

Well, thanks for taking a look at the Skyridge Psychic Pokémon. Gengar F-66-# would now like you to participate in a little psychic experiment of its own to test your psychic abilities. Gengar F-66-# would like for you to guess what color it is thinking of . . . Huh?! Err, yeah, Gengar F-66-#, that's going to be a real tough one. DMTM rolls his eyes.
