How to Run BattleZone as a Tournament
Step by Step, from Sanctioning to Reporting
- Complete the Pokémon sanctioning application.
- BattleZone events should be sanctioned in one-month blocks, with all events per month sanctioned at the same time. You only need to fill page 1 once and list any additional BattleZone events you will sanctioning on page 2. Since each kit comes with these forms, you will have extra forms that you can use to sanction other non-BattleZone Pokémon events if you choose.
- You will be filling out the enclosed sanctioning paperwork for NEXT Season’s events and this form must be received at Wizard’s by the 20th of this month (for example: this form must be received by Dec 20th for the January season).
- You may submit your sanctioning application to the DCI via fax at (425) 254-2987, or by mail at:
DCI Tournament Sanctioning P.O. Box 1080 Renton, WA 98057-1080
- By submitting this application, your tournament will be listed in the online DCI Tournament locator for new players in your area to find your event.
- Shortly after sanctioning your events, you will receive:
- An Event Report Summary customized by DCI staff for each BattleZone event you’re scheduling for that month;
- A copy of the Tournament Organizer’s Handbook (if you are new to DCI-sanctioned tournaments), which you should use as a reference for running DCI-sanctioned events; and
- A pad of DCI membership application cards for players who are new to tournaments.
- Register Your Players
- Be sure to gather each player’s name and DCI number on a copy of the Player Information List at registration (a master copy exists in the handbook you received). Players who do not yet have DCI numbers will receive them on the DCI membership-card portion of the application they fill out on–site. They should use this DCI number when they register for this and all future sanctioned events they attend.
NOTE:Each player must supply a DCI number at registration. If any player participating in the tournament does not have a DCI number, that tournament report will be returned to the organizer so he/she can issue the needed DCI numbers.
- Run Your Event
Your players can participate in every round of your event-regardless of how many times they win or lose-when you use the Swiss player-pairing system (see section F.1-Swiss Pairing System in the Tournament Organizer’s Handbook for an explanation of how to use this system). Be sure to record the winner and loser of each round on a copy of the Match Report Form (in the handbook you received).
- Award Prizes
You have received 16 Classic Promo cards and 8 "Winner" Stamped promo cards in your kit, which you must award in this manner:
- 3 "Winner" stamped promo cards to the 1st place finisher
- 2 "Winner" stamped promo cards to the 2nd place finisher
- 1 "Winner" stamped promo cards to the 3rd and 4th place finishers
- 1 "Winner" stamped promo card to the registered Head Judge for this event
- 1 Classic promo card to each participant in the event (if 16 or less players) or
- 1 Classic promo card to the top 16 finishers if more than 16 participants in the tournament
- Send the Complete Event Report back to the DCI.
For each event, please send the following information to the address listed above:
- A complete Event Report Summary.
- A full Player Information List (containing name and DCI number).
- Match Reporting Forms featuring match results for each round of play.
- Membership application cards filled out by each new player receiving a DCI number at your event. (The player keeps the tournament card portion).
- Seeing the Results
Two to three weeks after reporting these results, your players will be able to see the results of their play in their online DCI Ratings at www.thedci.com.
