How to Run a BattleZone as a League

Step by Step, from Signup to Rewarding.

  1. Scheduling your League
    • We suggest that you schedule your BattleZone League sessions for at least 2 hours at a time. You have the option of running multiple sessions per week if you choose.
    • Write the time and date of your league sessions on the BattleZone poster and display it in a visible place.
  2. Player Signup
    • Write each member of your league on the enclosed sign-up sheet.
    • Give each league member their first league score sheet (you have permission to make as many copies of the enclosed score sheet as you need).
    • If you have any younger players that are new to the game, you can give them a copy of the activity sheet (you have permission to make as many copies of the enlcosed activity sheet as you need). Give that player 100 points on their score sheet once they complete this activity (it is long and can be continued in multiple sessions if need be).
  3. League Play
    • The format is a free-for-all event. No pairings are needed. As the BattleZone leader, you can choose what format your league member’s decks should be (Unlimited or Modified – details on these formats appear in the Pokemon Tournament floor rules at 222.thedci.com under Tournament Rules). If you find most of your players would rather play with Modified decks or other formats then you should consider running this program as a tournament and not as a casual league.
    • Each league member finds and plays a single game against another league member. They must write the name of their opponent on their score sheet and have their opponent initial the sheet showing they played against them. Players should not play the same player twice in a row.
    • Each player gains 20 points in they won and 10 points if they lost.
    • Players keep track of their own match results and turn in their score sheets at the end of each session or if they have filled out their score sheet.
    • As the BattleZone leader you will collect and hand out the score sheets each session. Please keep these sheets in a safe place.
    • Once a player has filled out a score sheet, write the total for that sheet next to their name on the sign-up sheet.
  4. Scoring and Prizes
    • Combine all of the prize cards from the BattleZone kits you have purchased for this season. In most cases you will have purchased all 4 available copies of the kits. This would give you 64 copies of the Classic promo card, 32 copies of the new promo card, and 4 copies of the oversized promo card.
    • Once a player has earned 100 points, give that player 1 of the Classic promo cards.
    • At the end of the last session of the current BattleZone season, give out 1 of the new mechanic promo cards to the 32 players with the highest point totals and 1 of the oversized promo cards to the 4 players with the highest point totals.
    • If you have less players than this, feel free to give out the remaining promo cards as you see fit.
  5. Reporting
    • We require that reporting forms be submitted by the 15th of the following month.. Please fill out the reporting form and return to Wizards of the Coast in the included addressed envelope. Stores which fail to return the reports will have their BattleZone privileges revoked for not less than 1 Season.
