Art Description

HASTUR -- The UnspeakableAction: Action: A demonic face that's like a palindrome - it has eyes in its chin and a mouth on its forehead so if you see the piece upside-down, there's another face!
Card Type: God
Artist: Nils Hamm

Initial HASTUR Sketch

This piece was quite a challenge. The artist took a literal approach to the "palindrome" concept, and came up with a reversible mask. It's cool, but too ordinary. Plus, we wanted the creature to *be* the palindrome, not simply wear a reversible mask.

HASTUR: Round 1

The next sketch is more disturbing. There's something unsettling about a column of flesh with dozens of eyes and screaming mouths, but since this is a god card I felt it needed a little something more; something to make it more dangerous. Of course, nothing says "horror" like tentacles!.

HASTUR: Round 2

I really like the octopoid shape that came out in the final. It seems quite fitting for a god from the Cthulhu Mythos. And look! It's still a palindrome!
