Calgo, Vizier of Rainclouds

Light Civilization, Initiate

ORIGINS
The Civilization of the Light had remained isolated and virtually undetected from the land and sea civilizations dwelling below them for thousands of years. Since they were so far above the ground, none of the races below understood that the Light existed. When those in the Light realized there was a war over the precious little land that was left after the cataclysm, they created the Initiates. The Initiates became the most common of races among the population of the Light. They were invented and designed by Light Bringers, the powerful governing body that rules over all the races of the Light Civilization. These androids serve their creators flawlessly, even though they have their own conscious minds. Their ability to organize and create battle plans is fast and unparalleled amongst the other civilizations. Calgo is a Vizier, and is responsible for developing weather plans for battles, as well as regulating the atmosphere for the cities of Light. These beings were created by the Light Bringers to ensure that an obedient army would be around to protect their cities from the space-hungry races of the lands and sea.

ATTACKS
During times of war, Calgo, Vizier of Rainclouds, calls upon its troops to organize and rise above the cities that make up the lands of the sky. Through emissions of heat energy, the troops are able to part the clouds or direct them into a particular area, whether they need to complicate a battle or provide much needed water to their cities. On the battlefields, not even the most powerful creatures can escape the weather that is wrought by these Initiates. Their unique shape also allows them to act as lightning rods--they pose over the strongest creatures of the enemy armies and draw lightning down upon them. The speed at which this attack can happen makes it almost impossible for the target to strike back, or even raise a shield in time to defend itself. Even when there are no clouds visible for miles, Calgo’s troops are able to create an electrically charged whip out of thin air from stored energy that lashes out at their opponents.

POINTS OF INTEREST
Much of the time, Calgo’s troops live above or below the cities, in the clouds, where they tend to drift unseen amongst billions of tiny drops of water. While waiting in their cloudy home, water constantly condenses on their light, metallic bodies and drips off to the lands below. They communicate in a language known only to them and to the Light Bringers, a series of sounds so low in pitch that none but they can hear them unaided, though it can be felt on the air at close range.

CIVILIZATION
During a storm, the upper part of a cloud is charged positively, while the lower part is charged negatively, like a capacitor. This is caused by molecules bouncing off of one another as water evaporates, condenses, and freezes. Thus lightning is born--lightning that is a key source of energy for the Light Civilization during the darker parts of the year. Some blasts of lightning are so powerful that they reach a temperature similar to that on the surface of the sun. This energy is used by the Light to power their magnificent cities and fuel their vast armies. Much research is being done to better understand the workings of storms in order to create a more predictable source of extra energy.
