Revelers Adopt Tessalar "Disguises"
Waterdeep -- Dozens of young guests ridiculed the well-known mage-entertainer Tessalar Hulicorm at a revel held last night by the noble Torres Agundar II (in his parents' absence). The event was in the family villa in North Ward (bounded by Shield, Copper, and Hassantyr's Streets). The mockers wore costumes that resembled Hulicorm's customary dress, complete with false beards and fingers-full of large, gaudy, near-valueless rings. It's reported that they indulged in devastating parodies of Tessalar's mannerisms and sayings, some displaying superb mimicry of his "high, fluting, fussy" voice and pompous manner.
Hulicorm seemed furious with both those mocking him and his host, stating his view that such an elaborate jest could not have been arranged without Agundar's foreknowledge and therefore either permission or assistance. He then withdrew into a garderobe "to a chorus of jeers," and there worked perhaps his best public illusions yet: Spells that made images of both his host's parents appear to walk in on the revelry and express angry disapproval of the treatment of "our esteemed friend" Tessalar.
So realistic was the mage's work that the younger Agundar believed it for some time and submitted to a thorough tonguelashing. When the illusions faded and their true nature became apparent to all, Agundar was enraged, but his "mightily impressed" guests applauded. Tessalar seems to have magically slipped away from the Agundar villa, presumably returning to his abode: the Sea Ward tower he seldom leaves.
