Jurnng: Troll Ranger



Jurnng (yes, all those letters are pronounced) was raised by ogre magi and trained as a ranger to guard them. He did not do a very good job, however -- gnome adventurers killed them. But Jurnng escaped, worked on his skills, and planned revenge. Not because he really cared, but because he lacked the intelligence to recognize that revenge was unnecessary. That is his great weakness: He does not realize when something is futile or pointless, and he takes risks for little reward just because a course of action seems right. He eventually did kill those gnome adventurers, one at a time, and now just roams the countryside looting and killing adventurers of any race. They are usually well-equipped, which means he is, too.

In a fight, Jurnng casts a resist elements or protection from elements spell (if he can), then tries to get the drop on his opponent. His sword attacks are deadly, and he tries to corner foes so that they cannot run. He knows enough to try to separate a group of adventurers and kill them one at a time. Jurnng would make a good cohort for another monster or villain.

Here we offer three versions of Jurnng, for varied challenge levels. He is presented with magic items equivalent to the value that a NPC of his level should have.
