Q’Barran Ziggurat Rises 30 Feet into Midair

NEWTHRONE—An ancient ziggurat northeast of the village of Wyrmwatch lifted itself out of the Q’Barran mud and now hovers 30 feet above the ground with no visible means of support.

Due to its proximity to civilization, the Tekeli Ziggurat has been fully explored for decades and was of only academic interest. Believed to have some religious function, the interior of the ziggurat contained a dozen chambers, each filled with terra cotta statuary and abstract carvings upon the stone walls.

But aloft, the Tekeli Ziggurat has revealed that it was covering a passage into the subterranean depths. Initial eyewitnesses accounts said that items dropped into the pit disappeared without a sound.

The Wyrmwatch militia has cordoned off the ziggurat as a precaution. “We don’t believe that anything will emerge from the pit, but we don’t want anyone to get too curious and wind up underneath the ziggurat if—I mean when—it descends again,” said Elder Nevillom, speaking on the militia’s behalf from Wyrmwatch.

Hannara Pilchen, a historian visiting from the University of Wynarn, said that the sudden rise of the ziggurat coincided with the alignment of the stars known as the Northern and Southern Maiden Tears with the north and south corners of the ziggurat.

“The Maiden Tears are among the brightest objects in the night sky this time of year—brighter than some of the moons, even—and it’s unusual this year that the north and south ones are so far apart,” she said.

“While it’s easy to invent connections between what’s happening in the sky and what’s happening here on the ground, in this case it may be warranted,” she said.
