Battle of the (War)bands
It's week 2 of Battle of the Warbands -- time to select two Chaotic Good commanders. But first, let's look back to last week's poll, asking for your LG commander choices:
Purple Dragon Knight: 21.7%
Mordenkainen the Mage: 20.4%
Sword Archon: 6.9%
Young Master: 4.5%
Cleric of Lathander: 3.8%
Cleric of Yondalla: 3.8%
The Chaotic Good Candidates
Granting Whirlwind Attack to all your followers can be a devastating command effect. Add in a breath weapon and three melee attacks, and you have a commander who can dish out some damage. The samurai's low AC, however, can be a problem.
Drizzt, Drow Ranger
Whether you love him or love to hate him, this drow gets talked about a lot. His command effect boosts unique followers in useful ways, and his warband building can pull in some choice Lawful Good uniques as well.
Elminster of Shadowdale
In addition to his solid spell selection, the iconic mage of the Forgotten Realms has some powerful abilities, among which are an unresistable line of silver fire, spell penetration, one use of Quickcast, and the ability to cast any spell his followers can cast. The only problem is having room to include enough followers with him, because at 200 points, he's half your warband.
Animals and magical beasts get significant boosts when commanded by the Greenfang -- improved crit range, legion's magic fang, and greater vigor give quite a boost to the beasties. This druid is no slouch in melee, either, with decent attacks, AC, and HP.
Giants of Legend
Perhaps the most popular CG commander, the marshal's Grant Move Action ability is a legendary, game-breaking maneuver. Additionally, as the cheapest Commander 4 in CG, he's a bargain points-wise. Keep him out of melee, though, because he can't take much punishment.
Moon Elf Fighter
Incredible speed, high attack bonuses, good AC, and a high command rating are nice, but they aren't the reasons you choose this elf to lead your band. You choose him for his command effect. Giving tactics to your entire band lets you break the rules in ways that frustrate opponents.
Mordenkainen the Mage
Giants of Legend
Mordy's "moral flexibility" allows him to make his second appearance in our poll. He's still a contender with his strong battery of spells and auto-damaging command effect.
Storm SilverhandWhich is your preferred CG commander?
Storm is a true Renaissance woman. She has it all -- good attacks (both ranged and melee), useful spells, Countersong, Silver Fire, and great warband building and command effects. Having so many options available is sure to keep your opponent guessing.
