Stan Freberg, Spike Jones, "Weird Al" Yankovic . . . I walk among giants.
It wasn't my idea, but I was a willing participant. I wrote new lyrics to the classic Christmas carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas," with the intent of selling Wizards of the Coast products. I will not apologize for that.
At first it was going to just be the lyrics, posted to the website, leaving all the singing up to you, but my ambition knows no bounds so I asked if we could actually record the song and post that here too.
Enter Keith Strohm and the Wassailants: Wizards of the Coast's own in-house choir (and what self-respecting game company doesn't have its own choir?). They lent their time and talents and I thank them all for bringing this song to life. There is nothing stranger than hearing people sing something you wrote, and stranger still when they just sing the hell out of it. I was floored! Just before the tape rolled, conductor Alex von Hochtritt turned to the soprano section and said, "Remember, I want Maria Callas." Maria Callas should be so lucky.
Destined to be a holiday classic? You decide. I just thought it would be fun, and it was.
