Imp Familiar: Nijel has an imp familiar named Dave. He is constantly in the form of an immense canary, and he tells Nijel that he is a dire canary.

Empathic Link (Su): Nijel can communicate telepathically with Dave at a distance of up to one mile. He has the same connection to an item or a place that Dave does.

Share Spells: Nijel may have any spell he casts on himself also affect Dave if the latter is within 5 ft. at the time. Nijel may also cast a spell with a target of "You" on Dave.

Touch: Dave can deliver touch spells for Nijel.

Wizard Spells Prepared: (4; base DC = 10 + spell level): 0 -- dancing lights, daze, detect magic, flare, light, mage hand, mending. Because of his relatively low intelligence, Nijel has never been able to master any but the simplest of cantrips.

Poison (Ex): Dave delivers his poison (Fortitude save DC 15, including a +2 racial bonus) via a successful sting attack when in his normal form. The initial damage is 1d4 points of Dexterity damage; the secondary damage is 2d4 points of Dexterity damage.

Spell-like Abilities: At will -- detect magic, detect good, invisibility (self only); 1/day -- suggestion. Caster level 6th; save DC 10 + spell level.

Alternate Form (Su): Dave can assume other forms at will as a standard action. This ability functions exactly like a polymorph self spell (caster level 12th), except that Dave can assume only the form of a large canary.

Coal Fume Vulnerability (Ex): Dave immediately begins to take asphyxiation damage (see drowning rules in the Dungeon Master's Guide) if exposed to noxious coal fumes, with no saving throw. Dave avoids coal like the plague and much prefers magical heating, clean-burning natural gas, or solar power.

Empathic Link (Su): Dave has an empathic link with Nijel out to a distance of up to one mile. Nijel cannot see through Dave's eyes, but the two of them can communicate telepathically.

Improved Evasion (Ex): If Dave is subject to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, he takes no damage on a successful save or half damage on a failed save.

Outsider Traits: Dave has darkvision 60 ft. He cannot be raised or resurrected (though a wish or miracle spell can restore life).

Poison Immunity: Dave is immune to poison.

Regeneration (Ex): Damage dealt to Dave is treated as subdual damage, which automatically heals at a rate of 2 hit points per round. Acid attacks and holy or blessed weapons (if silver or enchanted) deal normal damage to him, which doesn't go away. Attack forms that don't deal hit point damage ignore regeneration, and it does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation. Dave can regrow lost parts of his body and can reattach severed limbs and body parts. Severed parts that are not reattached wither and die normally.

See in Darkness (Su): Dave can see perfectly in darkness of any kind, even that created by a deeper darkness spell.

Touch: Dave can deliver touch spells for Nijel.
