Rob Heinsoo, Designer:
Well, experienced gamers are going to want to play in the Realms because it really is *THE* D&D world. Greyhawk is all well and good as a default setting, but Realms is a true world that incorporates all the good stuff from third edition D&D while going far beyond what the core team can provide for Greyhawk.
Skip Williams, Senior Designer:
Yes -- it's the most fully detailed world produced for the new game.
Rich Baker, Creative Director :
Experienced players will find hundreds of new character combinations and perks to explore, along with a finely crafted world rich with intrigue, adventure, and opportunities.
Sean Reynolds, Designer:
New domains, new prestige classes, new feats, new magic items, new spells, and new twists on established deities.
Rob Heinsoo:
And new gamers will clearly want to take advantage of the fact that this basic campaign setting has loads of stuff worked out for them and ready to play. Compared to many world settings, that are long on information but short on playable material, this set tries to give starting DMs all kinds of playable material to work with right away.
Rich Baker:
While we're not specifically aiming the new Realms at our new players -- this is a mature and highly developed campaign setting -- we're not trying to make things inaccessible to them. In fact, I think that new players would be amazed and delighted to discover first-hand this incredibly rich and varied world. But Realms isn't for kids.
That's it for our Roundtable this month. Sean, will you let us in on what's coming next month, when we discuss Heroes and Villains?
Sean Reynolds:
We'll take some of the classic, iconic characters of the Realms and present them in the new D&D format. That lets people see how we use the rules to handle high-level characters that used to break the rules back in second edition D&D but don't in the new game. It also gives little peeks at some of the feats, domains, and prestige classes we'll be presenting in the book (as these characters use these new options).
Stay tuned!
