Registration started at around 08:30am, closed right around 10:00am and we
were under way shortly after. Deck registration and construction went smoothly.
The majority of the penalties were handed out shortly after that due to incorrect
deck registration. Since we were at rules enforcement level three, it didn't
result in anyone being ejected. Which was good as far as the players were concerned.
The rest of the day went pretty smoothly since most of the staff members were
veterans of the tournament scene. For the most part we were over staffed for
the number of players we had for the event, but it worked out as judges were
assigned or took responsibility for different events. In all we had seven judges
(1 Level 3, 2 Level 2, 3 Level 1 & 1 Level 0) plus one operation person and
the TO.
We had all the sanctioned tournaments wrapped up around 10:30pm and finished
off the day with a Urza's block sealed three person team round robin tournament
for the staff and a few other people. Unfortunately my team came in second.
As with every PTQ I've judged at, I learned a few things. Aside from a few
rules clarification, I vastly increased my understanding of the tournament reporting
process (how to correct mis-registered deck lists, filling out result forms,
using DCI reporter, etc.). Over all it was a good learning experience for me.
