| Triple Single Elimination - Victoria, Canada |
Dale Friesen
As one of the final parts of our efforts at reviving the Magic community in
Victoria over the summer, my fellow certified judge Bill Krauss and I arranged
for a second set of three single-elimination standard tournaments at a local
comic book shop (Yellowjacket Comics & Toys).
Bill played in the first of these three tournaments, for which we had sixteen
people: a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. The second tournament also
had sixteen (it was after the second round of the first tournament, so twelve
people had already been eliminated), and the third had eight.
The first tournament had, in my opinion, the most enthusiasm of the three.
People had new decks to try, and some of the people there hadn't played in a
sanctioned tournament in over a year. The few rules questions were quite straightforward,
dealing largely with stack resolution.
Overall, it seemed like people were glad to come out to organized play, and
several people said that the fact that the tournament was sanctioned was a big
plus. As school starts up time will be harder to find, but hopefully any momentum
we've built up won't dissipate too quickly.
Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of Bolen Books.
