|Urza's Destiny Prerelease - Louisville, KY
I was a judge at the Louisville, KY, Urza's Destiny Pre-Release.
On the whole I would say that the entire tournament went off without a hitch.
Brian Goethall was head judge of the event. Some people complained about a
Level 2 head judging the event but this is a perfectly legal practice.
We started the event at 10 am handing out product and giving
45 minutes for registration. We also announced, "No Land Swap" which caused
some minor complaining but resulted in no major complications. Overall there
were no major incidents of foul play that we could see.
I had one situation where a younger player looked as though
he was going to stall with a few minutes left in the round but I sat down
and table judged the match and just mentioned that I would be watching both
players for slow play. Without singling the lad out unnecessarily (and without
him really doing anything wrong) I was able to get the idea out of his head
before he really went there.
I had one other situation with a new player that was drawing
before untap and I simply informally cautioned him that it was very important
to follow turn order because it can have significant impact on the game and
that he should just take his time and relax and remember each step as it comes.
Trying to be educational in the situation I checked up on him later on and
found him following turn order.
In all it was a great tournament with a 176 person turnout.
Kudos to the local judges that helped us out.
