The Next Level Games invites you to experience Grand Prix–Nashville. This is your opportunity to compete at the highest level of Organized Play for Magic: The Gathering in one of the most unique cities in the country. This event will be the experience of a lifetime and the only chance to play in a Scars of Mirrodin Sealed Deck Grand Prix in the United States.

Grand Prix–Nashville will not only let you have rich experiences playing Magic, but it will totally immerse you in one of the most unique and historic cities in the South. Nashville is well known worldwide as Music City U.S.A., but the city also offers a taste of southern hospitality as well as some great historic landmarks. The location site is the sprawling Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center. With every possible convenience you could ask for in a hotel from fast food to fine dining, convenience store items to luxury shopping, and peaceful quiet places to an electric nightclub; Gaylord Opryland has it all under one roof.

The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix tournament series is a great reason to get out of the house, catch up with old friends, meet some new ones, and play Magic. Grand Prix tournaments are world-wide open events that allow all Magic players to participate and experience the thrill of a large-scale competition. In addition to $30,000 in cash prizes, Pro Tour invitations for the top 16 finishers, and exclusive foil promo cards for participants, Grand Prix feature a host of other activities, including public events and artist signings (prizes subject to change). Registration and Schedule

  • Friday, November 19: Registration 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 20: Registration 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, November 20: Tournament begins at 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, November 21: Day Two begins at 10 a.m.

The main tournament at Grand Prix–Nashville is open to Magic players of all ages.

Tournament Format

  • Day 1: Sealed Deck
  • Day 2 and Top 8: Booster Draft
  • Sealed Deck Product: 6 Scars of Mirrodin booster packs
  • Booster Draft Product: 3 Scars of Mirrodin booster packs
  • Deck lists are required
  • If product is not stamped or preregistered, deck registration and deck swap will be performed for the Swiss Sealed Deck.

Tournament Structure

  • Modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds).
  • Rules Enforcement Level (REL) is Competitive (Day 1) and Professional (Day 2)
  • If 799 or fewer players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 or better record OR the top 64 players—whichever number is greater—will advance to the second day of the event.
  • If 800 or more players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 or better record OR the top 128 players—whichever number is greater—will advance to the second day of the event.
  • The Top 8 players after the final Swiss round on Day 2 will advance to the Top 8 single-elimination finals.
  • Top 8 playoff matches will be best 2 of 3, and have no time limit. (Players are still expected to play at a normal pace and complete playoff matches in a reasonable amount of time.)
  • The Top 8 players will be seated randomly at the draft table immediately prior to drafting. The Top 8 bracket will be determined using this random seating.
  • Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings.

  • 40K, Rules Enforcement Level (REL) is Competitive (Day 1) and Professional (Day 2)
  • The Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules and the Magic: The Gathering Infraction Procedure Guide are in effect for this event unless specifically overruled by information in this Format Document. Rules documents can be found in the DCI Document Center.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.
  • In the event that a player who wins an invitation to a Pro Tour stop at a Grand Prix has already qualified for an invitation, the invitation does not pass down under any circumstances. Previous qualification may be through a Qualifier tournament, through performance at a professional tournament, or by being an invited DCI player (valid upon the date of the official rank announcement for the appropriate professional tournament).

Last-chance Trials
Format: Sealed Deck
Start time: Noon, with new flights starting every 32 players. Last trial starts at 8 p.m.
Prizes: 1st place: 3-round bye at Grand Prix–Nashville and 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin. 2nd place: 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin. 3rd/4th place: 1/4 box of Scars of Mirrodin.
Cost: $30.00

Other Grand Prix–Nashville Trials will be run at WPN locations in the weeks leading up to the Grand Prix. Each offers at least 1 three-round bye to Grand Prix–Nashville.

Byes will be given to players in the Grand Prix based on the following criteria (Byes are not cumulative throughout the season or year. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Players that accumulate multiple byes to a particular Grand Prix tournament receive only the bye for the greatest number of rounds):

Third-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 4 or higher
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 2050 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on November 17, 2010.
  • Winners of Grand Prix–Nashville Trial tournaments.

Second-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 2 or 3
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 1950 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on November 17, 2010.

First-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 1
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 1850 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on November 17, 2010.

Trial winners
People who win a Trial event are awarded 3 byes in the Grand Prix that it feeds. Trial byes are not cumulative with other byes and do not pass down.

Infinite Scars of Mirrodin Drafts
Format: Scars of Mirrodin Booster Draft
Details: Each player will draft three packs of Scars of Mirrodin and then play in a single-elimination tournament to determine the final standings.
Start Time: Every time 8 players register
Prizes: 1st place receives 8 booster packs and free entry into another booster draft, 2nd place receives 4 booster packs, 3rd and 4th place each receive 1 booster pack
Cost: $18.00

Standard Win-A-Box
Format: Standard Constructed
Details: Each player will compete in a single-elimination Constructed event using a 60-card-minimum Standard deck
Start Time: Every time 8 players register
Prizes: 1st place receives a Box of Scars of Mirrodin

Extended Win-A-Box
Format: Extended Constructed
Details: Each player will compete in a single-elimination Constructed event using a 60-card-minimum Extended deck

Friday

Grand Prix Nashville Grinders
Format: Scars of Mirrodin Sealed Deck
Details: Each player receives six booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin and builds a deck using cards only obtained in those packs. Then players will play a single-elimination tournament to determine the final prizes. Deck lists and deck swaps will be used at this event, we provide any necessary land.
Start Time: We will start these events at 12 NOON and every time 32 players enter we will start a new flight. The last grinder will begin at 8 p.m.
Prizes: 1st place will receive a 3-round bye at Grand Prix–Nashville and 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin. 2nd place will receive 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin. 3rd and 4th place each receive 1/4 box of Scars of Mirrodin.
Cost: $30.00

Super Friday Night Magic
Format: Standard Constructed
Details: Each Friday night, Magic: The Gathering events take place around the world, but at Grand Prix Nashville we will make it a Super Event. For this event the format will be Standard Constructed, so bring you best deck and compete against some of the best players in the world. This event will be run as four rounds of Swiss with prizes based on the number of points players have at the end of the tournament.
Start Time: 7:00 p.m.
Prizes: Each player entering this event will receive a Friday Night Magic promo participation card. The prizes will be based on how many total points you gain, with 3 points being given for a win and 1 Point being given for a draw.
12 Points will receive 4 Friday Night Magic promos and 4 booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin
9-10 Points will receive 2 Friday Night Magic promos and 2 booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin
6-8 Points will receive 1 Friday Night Magic promo and 1 booster pack of Scars of Mirrodin
Cost: $15.00

Saturday

World of Mirrodin Sealed Deck
Format: Mirrodin/Scars of Mirrodin Sealed Deck
Details: This special event will be capped at 64 players. Each player will receive three booster packs of Mirrodin and three booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin. Players will then use cards obtained in those packs to build a 40-card-minimum deck. This event will be run as four rounds of Swiss with prizes based on the number of points players have at the end of the tournament.
Start Time: 5 p.m.
Prizes: Prizes for this event will be based on points. Players receive 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
Players with 12 Points will receive 1 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Players with 10 Points will receive 2/3 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Players with 9 Points will receive 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Cost: $30.00

Saturday Night Standard Mayhem
Format: Standard Constructed
Details: Grab your Standard deck and prepare to play for the glory! This event will be your chance to compete against some of the best players in the world using the best Standard deck you can find. This event will be run as four rounds of Swiss with prizes based on the number of points players have at the end of the tournament.
Start Time: 6 p.m.
Prizes: Prizes for this event will be based on points. Players receive 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
Players with 12 Points will receive 1 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Players with 10 Points will receive 2/3 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Players with 9 Points will receive 1/2 box of Scars of Mirrodin
Cost: $15.00

Sunday

Pro Tour–Paris Qualifier
Format: Scars of Mirrodin Sealed Deck
Details: This is your chance to qualify for Pro Tour¬–Paris. This event is a sealed deck event using Scars of Mirrodin. Each player will receive six booster packs of Scars of Mirrodin. Players will then use cards obtained in those packs to build a 40-card-minimum deck. This event will be run using a number of Swiss Rounds based upon attendance. At the end of the Swiss rounds the tournament will be cut to a Top 8, where players will participate in a single-elimination Booster Draft to determine the final prizes.
Start Time: 9:00 a.m.
Prizes: For this event we will add three booster packs to a prize pool. It is our goal to see that the top 20 percent of the players receive prizes. The final pack prize payout will be posted on site. In addition to booster packs, the Top 8 Players will receive Top 8 pins.
1st place will also receive an invitation to compete a Pro Tour–Paris and a Travel Voucher to attend Pro Tour–Paris

From the Vault Legacy Event
Format: Legacy Constructed
Details: For this event players will be playing in the Legacy format. This event will be run as a straight Swiss format with prize points based at the end of the Swiss rounds.
Start Time: 2 p.m.
Prizes: 1st place will receive From the Vault: Dragons, From the Vault: Relics, From the Vault: Exiled, and a number of packs based upon attendance.
2nd - 4th place will receive From the Vault: Relics and a number of packs based upon attendance.
5th - 8th place will each receive a number of packs based upon attendance.
Cost: $15.00

Generic Grand Prix Trial
Format: Extended Constructed
Details: If you plan on attending a Grand Prix in 2011, here is your chance to win a three-round bye good for any Grand Prix prior to December 31, 2011. The format is Extended so you can prepare for Grand Prix–Atlanta, just a few hours and months away. This event will be run using a number of Swiss rounds based upon attendance. The top 8 players will then play in single-elimination format to determine the final prizes.
Start Time: 4 p.m.
Prizes: Winner(s) will receive a three-round bye good for any Grand Prix prior to December 31, 2011, and a box of Scars of Mirrodin.
Other booster pack prizes will be given out based upon attendance.

Nashville International Airport is less than 10 minutes from the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. You can take a cab or shuttle. Hertz is the preferred car rental for Gaylord Hotels and offers discounts to guests.
