The Magic: The Gathering Grand Prix tournament series is a great reason to get out of the house, catch up with old friends, meet some new ones, and play Magic. Grand Prix tournaments are world-wide open events that allow all Magic players to participate and experience the thrill of a large-scale competition. In addition to $30,000 in cash prizes, Pro Tour invitations for the top 16 finishers, and exclusive foil promo cards for participants, Grand Prix feature a host of other activities, including public events and artist signings. Registration and Schedule

  • Friday, March 20: Registration 1 p.m. - 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 21: Registration 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, March 21: Tournament begins at 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, March 22: Day Two begins at 9 a.m.

The main tournament at Grand Prix–Singapore is open to Magic players of all ages.

Tournament Format

  • Extended Constructed
  • Deck lists are required
  • Players must use the same deck on Day 2 that they used on Day 1.

Tournament Structure

  • Modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds).
  • If 799 or less players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 record (or better) or the top 64 players - whichever is greater - advance to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations.
  • If 800 or more players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 record (or better) or the top 128 players - whichever is greater - advance to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations. .
  • The top 8 players after the final Swiss round on Day 2 will advance to the Top 8 single-elimination finals.
  • Top 8 matches will be best 2 of 3
  • Top 8 matches will have no time limit
  • Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings.

  • 40K, Rules Enforcement Level (REL) is Competitive (Day 1) and Professional (Day 2)
  • All Universal Tournament Rules and Magic: The Gathering Floor Rules are in effect for this event unless specifically overruled by information in this Format Document. Rules documents can be found in the DCI Document Center.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.
  • In the event that a player who wins an invitation to a Pro Tour stop at a Grand Prix has already qualified for an invitation, the invitation does not pass down under any circumstances. Previous qualification may be through a Qualifier tournament, through performance at a professional tournament, or by being an invited DCI player (valid upon the date of the official rank announcement for the appropriate professional tournament).


 

Tournament Byes

 Grand Prix Trials  

Last-Chance Trials: Friday, March 20
Trials start at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. Registration closes 15 minutes prior to each Trial. Maximum 32 players per Trial, single-elimination. The top finisher receives a third-round bye at Grand Prix–Singapore and one display of Conflux boosters. The format is Extended Constructed. Cost: S$15

Other Grand Prix–Singapore Trials will be run in the weeks leading up to the Grand Prix. Each offers at least 1 Third-Round bye to Grand Prix–Singapore.

Byes will be given to players in the Grand Prix based on the following criteria (Byes are not cumulative throughout the season or year. Byes do not pass down under any circumstances. Players that accumulate multiple byes to a particular Grand Prix tournament receive only the bye for the greatest number of rounds):

Third-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 4 or higher
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 2050 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on March 17, 2009.
  • Players with a DCI Constructed rating of 2000 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on March 17, 2009.
  • Winners of Grand Prix–Singapore Trial tournaments.

Second-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 2 or 3
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 1950 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on March 17, 2009.
  • Players with a DCI Constructed rating of 1900 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on March 17, 2009.

First-Round Byes

  • Players with a Players Club level of 1
  • Players with a DCI Total rating of 1850 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on March 17, 2009.
  • Players with a DCI Constructed rating of 1800 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on March 17, 2009.

Trial winners
People who win a Trial event are awarded 3 byes in the Grand Prix that it feeds. Trial byes are not cumulative with other byes and do not pass down.

Pro Tour–Honolulu Qualifier
Registration closes at 9:15 a.m.; play begins at 9:30 a.m. The winner qualifies for Pro Tour–Honolulu and wins airfare to Pro Tour–Honolulu. The format is Extended Constructed. Cost: S$20

Legacy Tournament
Registration closes at 11:45 a.m.; play begins at 12 p.m. Swiss tournament with cut to top-8 single-elimination.
The Top 8 wins Urza's Destiny Boosters.
Maximum players – 80. Cost: S$15

ARTIST: WARREN MAHY

For the past 10 years. Warren Mahy has been a freelance concept designer, story board artist, and production illustrator for the film, TV and the gaming industry. His most notable work so far would be his contribution to the designing of Peter Jackson's trilogy of blockbusters, The Lord of The Rings. His influence can also be seen in numerous other films, including the remake of King Kong and Andrew Adamson's Narnia series. Warren's illustrations are also seen in print, predominantly within the trading card and the role playing industry. Warren currently lives in the beautiful Bay of Plenty on the east coast of the North Island (NZ).

By Taxi
There are numerous taxis available in Singapore that offer a reliable service. The taxi fare from the airport to Singapore Expo is about $10 and to the city about $15, subject to surcharges. Please click here for full details. Note: There is an additional surcharge of $2 for all taxis departing from the Singapore Expo.

By Rail - Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line
Singapore Expo is served by its own station, Expo MRT station. To get to Singapore Expo from Changi Airport, take the eastbound train. It is just one stop from Changi Airport MRT and the journey lasts only 4 minutes. Average frequency from Changi Airport station is 12 minutes. If you are coming from other parts of Singapore, transfer trains at Tanah Merah station (on the East West line) where the train will take you to Expo MRT in 3 minutes. The station is behind Hall 6.

By Car
Three major expressways link Singapore Expo to the rest of Singapore. They are: East Coast Parkway (ECP) Pan Island Expressway (PIE) Tampines Expressway (TPE). There are 2,200 car park lots dedicated solely to visitors at the centre.

Take the PIE (exit 4A)
Turn into Simei Avenue
Head into Upper Changi Road East
Turn into Expo Drive where car park lots are located

Take the ECP (exit 2B)
Connect to Xilin Avenue
