any people ask pros what casual formats they tend to play. Usually the answers vary, but there is generally a clarification needed that they don't get to play said format as much as they would like. I would say Cube is the most accessible casual format for a professional Magic player due to a different individual setting it all up ahead of time. Commander, on the other hand, takes a pretty big commitment to be involved with, as your deck is very much an extension of you. However, no professional player was always professional and many, such as myself, played a lot more casual Magic earlier in our careers. I actually still remember my first Commander general, so I decided to pay homage.
Scion of the Ur-Dragon is a really cool card for Commander, because he is one of the few five-color generals, yet he still provides a ton of build-around-me potential. This means you get access to all of your favorite spells and utility lands, while having a focus to aim toward. Scion of the Ur-Dragon is usually a prominent part in many of the combos or synergies in the deck, as his ability is highly versatile. Over at GatheringMagic.com, Cmdr Decks tackled this very general for his video column.
In this list, Scion of the Ur-Dragon is doing many of the things I remember from my first Commander list. For example, one of the faster ways to actually take out someone with the deck is simply to fetch out a Dragon Tyrant with your Scion and pump it up as much as possible. Without the need for any upkeep costs or high upfront costs, Dragon Tyrant's abilities seem pretty nifty! This list looks to stall the game long enough to get Scion into play, where the fun begins. Check out the column and check back here for more Commander lists in the future!
