Trial Schedule

The Magic: The Gathering® Grand Prix tournament series is an international circuit of large-scale Qualifier tournaments featuring cash prizes and multiple invitations to Pro TourTM events.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT AND SCHEDULE

The format for Grand Prix – Sendai is Mirrodin Block Limited (Sealed Deck + Booster Draft. All DCITM Constructed rules and Magic® Floor Rules announced on October 1, 2003, along with all subsequent updates, will be enforced. .For the latest edition of the DCI and Magic Floor Rules, please refer to the DCI Rules web site.

  • Friday, March 19: Registration from 16:00-20:00. Players who cannot attend registration will be allowed to register on Saturday morning between 08:30 and 09:00 for an additional fee of ¥500.
  • Saturday, March 20: Tournament begins at 09:00. The Top 64 players from Day 1 advance to Day 2.
  • Sunday, March 21: Play begins at 9:00. The Top 8 players from Day 2 will play 3 rounds of single-elimination competition to determine the Grand Prix – Okayama champion.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

Divisions
The main tournament at Grand Prix – Sendai is open to Magic players of all ages.

If a player who wins an invitation to Pro Tour – San Diego at Grand Prix – Sendai has already qualified for an invitation, the invitation shall be extended to the next-best finisher. Previous qualification may occur through a Qualifier tournament, through performance at a professional tournament, or by being an invited DCI player (valid on the date of the official rank announcement for the appropriate professional tournament).

Tournament Format
The format for Grand Prix – Sendai is Mirrodin Block Limited (Sealed Deck and Booster Draft). All DCI Constructed format rules and Magic Floor Rules announced on October 1, 2003, along with all subsequent updates, will be enforced.

Tournament Structure
The structure for Grand Prix – Sendai is modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds, with the number of rounds determined by the number of participants), with the Top 64 players advancing to the Sunday finals for prizes and invitations. The first day of competition will consist of Sealed Deck. On Day 2, there will be a Booster draft and 3 Swiss rounds of competition, followed by another draft with 3 additional Swiss rounds, to determine the Top 8 players. After performing another draft, the Top 8 players will face off in single elimination play to determine the Grand Prix — Sendai champion.

Tournament Byes (Byes are not cumulative through the season or year.)
Byes for Grand Prix – Sendai are based on the 2003 Pro Tour New Orleans professional standings and DCI ratings as of December 24, 2003. Please refer to the Grand Prix Sendai bye list for details.

PRIZE PAYOUT
Grand Prix – Sendai will feature the standard main tournament prize schedule as well as a special Amateur prize schedule. The Amateur prizes will be paid to the highest-finishing amateur players in addition to any winnings those players receive from the main tournament prize schedule . All prizes are in U.S. Dollars.

Amateur Status
A player is considered to have amateur status if he or she has 0 lifetime pro points. If a player has ever been awarded ANY pro points from a Grand Prix, Pro Tour, or World Championship event, that player no longer has amateur status, may not participate in the Amateur Championship or Junior Super Series tournaments, and is not eligible for amateur awards at Grand Prix or other tournaments.

PRO TOUR – SAN DIEGO QUALIFIER TOURNAMENT

  • When: March 21 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥ 3,500 (includes 1 Mirrodin tournament pack and 2 Darksteel boosters)
  • Format: Sealed Deck + Top 8 Booster Draft
  • Registration: Saturday, March 20 from 17:00.
  • Prizes: The top two players will each win an invitation to Pro Tour — San Diego. Additionally, the first place player will earn $500 in travel money. Darksteel booster packs will be awarded as additional prizes to the Top 8 as follows: 1st place: 32 packs, 2nd place: 20 packs, 3rd-4th: 15 packs, 5-6th: 8 packs, 7-8th: 5 packs.

MICHINOKU OPEN TOURNAMENT

  • When: March 21 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥ 1,000
  • Format: Standard Constructed
  • Registration: Registration for the morning Michinoku Open Tournament will be held from 09:00-09:30. Registration for the afternoon Michinoku Open Tournament will be held from 12:00-12:30.
  • Prizes: The first place player in each tournament will win 32 booster packs of Darksteel boosters. The runner-up will receive 20 booster packs of Darksteel boosters. The 3rd-4th players will each receive 15 booster packs, the 5-6th players will each receive 8 booster packs, while the 7-8th place players will each receive 5 booster packs.

SENDAI JUNIOR OPEN

  • When: March 21 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥500
  • Format: Standard Constructed
  • Registration: Sunday, March 21 from 09:00-09:30. NOTE: Participation in the Sendai Junior Open is restricted to players aged 14 or younger.
  • Prizes: The first place player will receive 36 Darksteel booster packs in addition to a special Two-Headed Dragon premium card. The runner-up will receive 18 Darksteel booster packs. The 3rd-8th place players will each receive 6 booster packs. All participants will receive a special Giant Growth premium card.

EIGHT-PERSON ON-DEMAND TOURNAMENTS
