Trial Schedule

The Magic: The Gathering® Grand Prix tournament series is an international circuit of large-scale Qualifier tournaments featuring cash prizes and multiple invitations to Pro TourTM events.

Tournament Format And Schedule

The format for Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu is Extended. All DCITM Constructed rules and Magic® Floor Rules announced on October 1, 2005, along with all subsequent updates, will be enforced. .For the latest edition of the DCI and Magic Floor Rules, please refer to the DCI Rules web site.
  • Friday, November 4: Registration from 17:00-21:00. Players who cannot attend registration will be allowed to register on Saturday morning between 08:30 and 09:00 for an additional fee of ¥500.
  • Saturday, November 5: Tournament begins at 09:00. The Top 64 players from Day 1 advance to Day 2. (In the event Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu has more than 800 players, the Top 128 players from Day 1 will advance to Day 2.)
  • Sunday, November 6: Play begins at 09:00. The Top 8 players from Day 2 will play 3 rounds of single-elimination competition to determine the Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu champion.

The main tournament at Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu is open to Magic players of all ages. Registration will be held on site on Friday and Saturday morning.

Tournament Details

Tournament Structure
The structure for Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu is modified Swiss-style (50-minute rounds, with the number of rounds determined by the number of participating players), with the Top 64 players advancing to the Sunday finals for prizes and invitations. (In the event Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu has more than 800 participating players, the Top 128 players will advance to Day 2.) On Day 2, there will be an additional 6 Swiss rounds (or 7 in the event 128 players advance) to determine the Top 8 players. Afterward, the Top 8 players will face off in single elimination play to determine the Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu champion

Tournament Byes (Byes are not cumulative through the season or year.)
Byes for Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu are determined using Pro Player Club level, as well as DCI ratings as of September 7, 2005. Please refer to the Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu bye list for details. Byes may also be earned through a Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu Trial tournament.

Prizes
The Top 16 finishing players at Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu will each receive an invitation to Pro Tour Honolulu (March 3-5, 2006). Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu will also feature the standard main tournament prize schedule as well as a special Amateur prize schedule. The Amateur prizes will be paid to the highest-finishing amateur teams in addition to any winnings those teams receive from the main tournament prize schedule. All prizes are in U.S. Dollars.

Amateur Status
A player is considered to have amateur status as long as he or she has 0 lifetime pro points. If a player has ever been awarded ANY pro points from a Grand Prix, Pro Tour, or World Championship event, that player no longer has amateur status, may not participate in the Amateur Championship or Junior Super Series tournaments, and is not eligible for amateur awards at Grand Prix or other tournaments.

Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu Trials

  • When: November 4 (Friday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥1,000
  • Format: Extended
  • Registration: November 4, 12:00-15:30
  • Prizes: Trials will be run using the flight system; each flight will be run as a 32-person single-elimination tournament. The winner of each tournament will receive 3 byes for Grand Prix—Kitakyuushuu.

Pro Tour Honolulu Qualifier

  • When: November 6 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥2,000
  • Format: Extended
  • Registration: Saturday, November 5, from 17:00.
  • Prizes: The winner of the Qualifier tournament will receive an invitation to Pro Tour Honolulu, as well as transportation to and from the Pro Tour. Ravnica: City of Guilds booster packs will also be awarded to top finishers.

Grand Prix—Beijing Trial

  • When: November 6 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥1,000
  • Format: Extended
  • Registration: November 6 (Sunday), 10:00-10:30
  • Prizes: The winner of the Trial tournament will receive 3 bys for Grand Prix—Beijing (to be help November 26-27). Ranvica: City of Guilds booster packs will also be awarded to top finishers.

Kitakyuushuu Junior Tournament

  • When: November 6 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥200
  • Format: Standard
  • Registration: November 6, 12:00-12:30. NOTE: Participation in the Niigata Junior Tournament is restricted to players aged 14 or younger.
  • Prizes: All participants will receive a special commemorative Slith Firewalker card. The winner of the tournament will receive a special commemorative Royal Assassin card. Other prizes, including Ravnica: City of Guilds booster packs, will be awarded to top finishers.

The Finals 2005 Kitakyuushuu Qualifier

  • When: November 6 (Sunday)
  • Entry Fee: ¥2,000
  • Format: Standard
  • Registration: November 6 (Sunday), 12:00-12:30
  • Prizes: The Top 4 finishers will be awarded an invitation to The Finals 2005, to be held on December 23-24.

Eight-Person On-Demand Tournaments

  • Constructed: ¥ 500
  • Booster Draft: ¥ 1,000
  • Sealed Deck: ¥ 2,000
