In case you've missed the billboard, the next podcast (episode 2) has now gone live, featuring Gabe & Tycho of Penny Arcade, Scott Kurtz of PvP, and Kris Straub of Starslip. Look for Episode 3 next week, as the party continues to explore the wilds of Dark Sun.
Speaking of podcasts, how have we never had these guys on? Ever wonder what a gelatinous cube sounds like? How about a shrieker… talking to a specter? Here's your chance to find out!
Any shopping plans over the long weekend? J!NX is having a 72-hour sale, 25% off all products. Pick up your favorite D&D tees! (Use promo code DND25OFF at checkout.)
And finally, we asked you last time who would win a little grudge match between the underdogs of our recent Creature Competition: Meepo or Splug. The people have spoken… and it's Meepo.
Who Won the Crown?
Friday, May 21st
Well folks, all good things must come to an end—in this case, our Creature Competition: Encounters just wrapped up with the Raven Queen earning ultimate victory, prevailing against no less than Tiamat. We certainly hope that you enjoyed this competition as much as we did, and we'd love to hear your thoughts, comments, and suggestions in case we run a future creature competition (spoiler: we'd love to): email@example.com.
Over at the WotC Novels Book Club these days, authors discuss their first dice. The first die I ever owned? A beaten-up d8 that somehow found its way into my pile of toys, and to this day I still don't have an adequate explanation for its appearance. The first complete set I ever owned? From the Red Box Starter Set, arriving one glorious Christmas morning.
Before signing off for the week, I'll end with our favorite D&D reference this week (at the appropriately named Geeks are Sexy website)—where we're glad to see D&D featured as the letter "T". (We pity the fool that doesn't roll a 20!)
And finally, while the Raven Queen may have defeated Tiamat, we still want to know the results of this head-to-head matchup that unfortunately never materialized. Who wins in a no-holds-barred, back-alley scrap between the lovely Meepo and the repugnantly charming Splug?
Passing of a Legend
Monday, May 10th
On behalf of Wizards of the Coast, we wanted to express our sorrow at the passing of legendary artist Frank Frazetta. Our sincerest condolences to his family. Frank Frazetta's work impacted generations of gamers with his iconic fantasy imagery—he shall be missed.
Tuesday, May 4th
In case you missed it, the May rules updates are now live—along with a companion article better explaining the process. Our thanks to Greg Bilsland and Andy Collins for putting those together; in addition, we've also created an archive of individual updates, if you only need to know what may have changed in a select book or two.
And for those of you interested in chatting with author Richard Lee Byers, we'll be hosting a Wizards Community chat this Thursday afternoon:
Date: Thursday, May 6th
Time: 1:00 PM-1:30 PM PDT
Once there, simply click on the Rooms tab and then select "Richardleebyers" We look forward to your participation!
